At least 14 people have been killed during heavy rains and strong winds that have plagued several parts of Indonesia since Wednesday, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has reported. “The BNPB has recorded that 35 regencies and cities in Java and Bali were hit by tornadoes,” BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in a press statement on Sunday. “As a result, 14 people have died, 60 are injured and 2,364 houses are damaged. The level of damage varies from building collapses to minor damage … generally because of trees falling on houses or winds blowing away roofs.”

The BNPB listed the affected regions in West Java as Bandung, Bekasi, Ciamis, Cianjur, Garut, Indramayu, Kuningan, Majalengka, Sukabumi and Tasikmalaya, and in Jakarta as South Jakarta and the Thousand Islands.
