State owned oil and gas firm Pertamina says it would buy 18 tankers as part of efforts to improve its performance, efficiency, and service to customers. Pertamina spokesman Mochammad Harun said Sunday that the company had allocated US$600 million to buy the tankers. "The new armada will increase our capacity to transport the crude oil from 31.7 million long tons to 32.9 million long tons in 2012 and non fuels from 5.5 million long ton to 7.4 million long tons in the same year," Harun said as quoted by kompas.com.
For fuel cargo, the company would maintain its capacity to only transport 27 million long tons, he added.
As of today, Pertamina operates 190 tankers.
