Jakarta is crying a river

February 3 - Kartika Sofyan (ITPP Jakarta): Floods are all over Jakarta. The rain was going from afternoon to the next day and it caused floods in Jakarta, Tangerang, Depok and Bogor. Kelapa Gading, Kampung Melayu, Tanah Abang, Tendean, Kemang, are places where the floods are from 1m to 5m. A lot of people didn’t go to work yesterday. Children didn't go to school. If it wasn't because their home filled with flood, the traffic jam made them hard to get to where they headed. Telephone lines in Gatot Subroto had been disturbed due to the flood. People whose homes are filled with water leave their home and temporary live in shelters. A lot of them are already used to the flood. Since 1992, almost every year their places always hit by flood during the hard rain season. Many people haven't got any help from the government. They need foods, blankets and any child supplies. They now manage to help each other by building temporary kitchen in their shelters. Some of the local hospitals had been given medical treatments for free. Until now, it's been reported that about 100.000 are flooding out; some who have two level houses chose to stay at their houses. This is the worst flood ever in Jakarta.
